Fal raises $1.3B Series F led by Bessemer, doubling its valuation to $16B

Fal, which runs image, video and audio AI models for developers, has announced a $1.3 billion Series F led by Bessemer Venture Partners alongside an earlier $350 million Series E led by Sequoia. The new round reportedly values it at $16 billion, double April's figure, after demand outran its computing capacity this summer.

Fal, the San Francisco company that runs generative image, video and audio models for developers, has announced a Series F led by Bessemer Venture Partners with continued investment from NVIDIA, alongside a Series E led by Sequoia Capital that closed earlier this year[1]. The Series F is $1.3 billion and values Fal at $16 billion, double its $8 billion valuation in April, Bloomberg reported[3]. Together with the $350 million Series E, the two rounds total $1.65 billion[4].

Who invested

Bessemer, an existing investor that has backed Fal in every round since its Series B two years ago, led the new round[2]. NVIDIA, Sound Ventures, HOF Capital and T. Rowe Price also took part[4]. The round closed in October, according to The Next Web[3].

Demand outran compute

Fal reportedly reached $800 million in annualised revenue earlier this year[3]. Chief executive Burkay Gur said that in the summer "we were not able to serve our customers and had to rate limit them"[3]. Fal says the new money pays for inference capacity and the team to build what comes next, funding work across its ecosystem in 2027[1]. It currently has about 185 staff[3].

Media is a different inference problem

Bessemer argues that serving image and video models is not the same job as serving chatbots: language models produce one token at a time, while image and video models refine a whole frame over many passes, which changes how memory, compute and latency have to be handled[2]. It says Adobe, Canva, Shopify, World Labs and Amazon have moved production volume to Fal, and that Fal has grown from an inference engine into workflow tools, an API to hundreds of models, custom infrastructure for enterprises' own weights, and post-training models with the labs that make them[2].

Why it matters

A $16 billion price for a company that mostly runs other people's models shows where investors think generative media's money will settle: in the serving layer that studios, ad agencies and e-commerce brands plug into their production pipelines[1]. Fal's summer rate limits also show that compute, not customers, is the constraint for now.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

01

What does Fal do?

Fal is a San Francisco company that hosts and runs generative image, video and audio models. Developers reach many models through one API, and model labs use it for distribution and serverless infrastructure.

02

How much did it raise, and from whom?

A $1.3 billion Series F led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with NVIDIA, Sound Ventures, HOF Capital and T. Rowe Price reported as participants. Fal announced it together with a $350 million Series E led by Sequoia earlier this year, for $1.65 billion across both rounds.

03

What is it worth?

About $16 billion, according to Bloomberg as reported by The Next Web and Tech.eu, double the $8 billion valuation from its April round. Fal's own announcement does not state a valuation.

04

What will the money pay for?

Fal says the rounds fund more inference capacity and its team through 2027. Its CEO said Fal had to rate-limit customers this summer because demand exceeded its compute.
