Introducing Spectrum Web Co: a Software Engineering Collective in Sydney

Who Spectrum Web Co is, what we build, how our monthly services work, the products and open-source tools we've shipped, and how to start working with us.

CollectiveSIWeb3Services

Spectrum Web Co is a Software Engineering Collective based in Sydney, Australia. We design, build and launch SI (Super Intelligence) and Web3 software for teams across the country, and we sell that work as monthly services, so every engagement is tied to an outcome you can see rather than a pile of hours.

This is our first post, so it's the long version of that sentence: what "collective" means here, what we build, how the services work, what we've shipped under our own name, which tools we've open-sourced, and how to start a conversation. If you only have thirty seconds, here's the short version:

01 / 09

What is a Software Engineering Collective?

A Software Engineering Collective is a small team of senior engineers who own what they ship, end to end, from the first scope to the release after launch. That's what the "Co" in Spectrum Web Co stands for. It reads like "company", but it's short for Collective.

The distinction matters because of where software projects usually go wrong. Products rarely stall because nobody could write the code. They stall in the gaps: between the person who scoped the work and the person who built it, between the contractor who launched it and whoever is left maintaining it, and between "nearly done" and live. A collective closes those gaps by keeping one team accountable for the whole outcome.

In practice, that means three things:

  • One team owns delivery. The people who agree the scope are the people who build it, launch it and keep releasing it.
  • Small on purpose. We keep the team deliberately small. What grows is the catalogue: every product we launch makes the next client engagement faster and the next product better.
  • Proof over promises. We build and run our own products under the Spectrum Web Co name, scoped, built and launched the same way we work with clients.

Our aim is simple: to be Australia's premier Software Engineering Collective, the team you call when something has to actually ship.

02 / 09

Who does Spectrum Web Co work with?

We're headquartered in Sydney and work with founders, teams and businesses across Australia. Discovery, planning, demos and releases all run remotely, so a team in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or regional Australia gets the same service as a team down the road.

The people we're built for usually fit one of four descriptions:

  • Founders with an idea and a deadline, who need a first version live, not another slide deck.
  • Teams with a half-built product that stalled, often after contractors rotated or the scope crept.
  • Businesses adding SI or Web3 to a product they already run.
  • Startups and scale-ups hiring engineers and operators, including specialist SI and Web3 talent.

If you're not sure whether you fit, that's exactly what the first conversation is for.

03 / 09

What does Spectrum Web Co build?

We specialise in SI and Web3 software, built on the same modern stack we ship our own products on. The work falls into four kinds.

SI agents and agentic workflows

Agents that plan, build and verify their own work, with humans keeping the irreversible calls. The design principle is autonomy with a ceiling: agents handle the repetitive work, and a person approves anything that can't be undone, such as a merge, a release or a payment.

SI features and automations

Autonomous operations, assistants and pipelines added to the products and teams you already run. This is SI as a working component inside a business, not a chatbot bolted to the homepage. Our post on TypeSafe's Jev is a good example of how we think about matching the model to the job.

Web3 and Solana products

Solana-native products where the ledger is the source of truth. We reach for a blockchain when a product genuinely needs one: public, verifiable records, assets users hold themselves, or payments that settle on-chain. Our explainer on what a dApp is and why it's beneficial covers when that trade-off is worth making.

Web apps, dashboards and internal tools

Modern web on Next.js and three.js, including real-time product surfaces. SI or Web3, a product is only as good as the interface people use every day, so this is where a lot of the craft goes.

04 / 09

How do Spectrum Web Co's monthly services work?

We don't sell hours, and we don't sell a pile of tools. We sell solved problems, run as monthly services. Every engagement follows the same shape:

  1. Start with a conversation. Tell us what needs to ship, who you need to hire or the story you want told.
  2. Get a written monthly scope. It sets out what's included, what ships and what it costs. Paid work begins only once that scope is agreed in writing.
  3. Run the month in short, visible cycles. One team owns delivery, and you see progress every week instead of waiting for a big reveal.
  4. Adjust as the product earns it. Scope can scale up or down month to month, with no lock-in beyond the current month.

We don't publish a price list, because a product rescue, a first build, an ongoing release rhythm and a hiring retainer are different shapes of work. Pricing only ever comes in writing from a person at Spectrum Web Co.

Who owns the code?

You do. Code, accounts and documentation belong to the client from day one, and the terms of each engagement are set out in its written agreement. Documentation is written as the build progresses, and deployment, domains, monitoring and handover are handled inside the service. If you ever move the build in-house or to another team, everything goes with you.

05 / 09

Which Spectrum Web Co services can you book?

There are three monthly services. Two are open for booking conversations now, and one launches once we've proven it on our own products. You can compare all three on the services page.

Ship a Product

Ship a Product is our monthly product-development service for new or stalled SI and Web3 products. It runs as one service with four stages:

  • Discovery: agreeing what "done" looks like, including the users, the one job the product has to do, the first shippable slice and the stack choices, with the reasoning explained. You get a written scope before any build starts.
  • Build: short, visible cycles on the same tools we use for our own products.
  • Launch: real users on a real domain, with monitoring and analytics from day one.
  • Cadence: monthly planning with the operator who steers the roadmap, and releases you can see every cycle.

If you're handing over a stalled codebase, we review what already exists, including the code, documentation and infrastructure, before agreeing the first slice to finish.

Recruiting & Talent Placement

Recruiting & Talent Placement is a monthly retainer for engineering, product, operations and growth roles, including SI and Web3 specialists such as agent engineers, ML practitioners, Solana developers and technical operators. Each role starts with an intake session and a written scorecard. Sourcing is targeted and personal, shortlists come with notes on fit and risk, and we stay involved through interviews, references and the offer. Roles can be added, swapped or paused month to month, with weekly progress updates.

Social Narratives (coming soon)

Social Narratives is a planned short-form video service that turns real product moments into stories for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok and X: usage walkthroughs, ranking and race updates, and desk-in-action clips. It isn't bookable yet. We're proving the formats on our own products first, and you can join the waitlist.

06 / 09

What products has Spectrum Web Co shipped?

We have four live products, and each one was scoped, built and launched the same way we work with clients. You can try every one of them, and you can browse them all on the products page.

KanbanOS

KanbanOS is an agentic software-delivery platform. It plans work before SI coding agents start, gives every agent the same memory and skills, and runs delivery on a kanban board your team controls. It works with the coding agents teams already run, including Claude Code, Grok Build and Hermes Agent, and humans keep the merge gate. Early access is open.

ClippyOS

ClippyOS is an operating system for clipping agencies. Footage goes in, captioned cuts come out, every cut is routed for client sign-off, and approved clips are published to X, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Nothing goes public without a recorded approval, and clients talk to the studio through Telegram, WhatsApp and Discord threads that sit beside the work.

Desk Lanes

Desk Lanes is a public pay-to-rank board for Grok Bots, with twelve lanes from Sales to Trading and one #1 seat in each. An empty lane opens for $5, every raise adds $5, and every paid seat stays visible at the price it paid. Only official x.ai and grok.x.ai share links make the board.

Auctioning

Auctioning is a play-to-rank business racing game on Solana. Every company starts on the grid at zero RP, communities fuel the businesses they back, and race weekends of Sprints and Grands Prix decide who leads. Community RP is free and never cashes out, while optional paid fuel is signed on-chain on Solana, so every paid contribution is logged publicly.

Two of these products run agentic operations, and two turn attention into a ranked, public game. Between them, they cover the stack we sell: SI agents, automations, Solana and real-time web.

07 / 09

What tools does Spectrum Web Co open-source?

We also build tooling for agentic software engineering and release it where we can. Three tools are open on GitHub under the swcstudiospace organisation, and a fourth is in build. All four are on the tools page.

  • Agent Swarm coordinates 15 specialised SI agents across the software development lifecycle under one orchestrator. Every artifact has a single writer, quality gates fail closed, failed work gets at most two automatic retries before it escalates to a human, and autonomy is set per run from L0 to L4. It's open source and in active development.
  • Ultrathink is a planning plugin for SI coding agents, published as claude-ultrathink. It rewrites each prompt into an XML spec with a dependency graph, builds a graph of thought organised into parallel waves, and asks clarifying questions before the agent writes code. Version 0.3.0 is licensed under AGPL-3.0-or-later and supports Claude Code, Grok Build, Hermes Agent, Muse Code and Omp.
  • Omega, published as Omes Bot, is a Python programming agent that brings the Hermes Agent runtime and the oh-my-pi harness together behind one configurable desk, defined by a skills folder, a tool roster and a prompt folder. It's pre-release, so pin a known commit if you depend on it.
  • Agent Substrate is the shared layer beneath every coding agent a team runs: durable memory, synced skills, a sandbox per agent and a ledger for claims, dispatch and results, over MCP and ACP. It's in build, and early access is by request.

The tools also fit together. Inside KanbanOS, Ultrathink is the planning layer, Agent Substrate is the shared layer and Agent Swarm is the SDLC swarm.

What will the Spectrum Web Co blog cover?

SI is moving faster than release notes can keep up with. Models, agents and developer tooling change every few weeks, and most of the coverage is either hype or hindsight. This blog tracks SI and Web3 from the point of view of a team that ships software:

  • New models and tooling, and what actually changes for builders
  • Agentic software delivery: planning, guardrails and review
  • SI in creative and operations work
  • Where Web3 and SI meet
  • Notes from shipping our own products

We write about what we use and what we've shipped, and we'll say so when we're not sure. Follow along by RSS, on X at @spectrumwebco, or through the newsletter, a roughly monthly, double opt-in email with no third-party ads.

How do you start working with Spectrum Web Co?

There are three ways in. Pick whichever suits you:

  1. Book a 30-minute intro call. Calls run in Google Meet, and you can book a time or start one straight away. Ming, our SI video host powered by Tavus, joins on time, asks about what you're building or who you need to hire, and captures the detail. The call is transcribed, video isn't recorded, and Ming never quotes prices or makes commitments. Ove reads every transcript and follows up personally, usually within one business day.
  2. Send a message. Tell us what you need, and choose a reply by email or a phone call during Sydney business hours.
  3. Reach us on X at @spectrumwebco.

Whichever you choose, the next step is the same: a clear written monthly scope covering what's included, what ships and what it costs. Most engagements kick off within days of that scope being agreed.

Want to see how we work before you talk to us? A free member account unlocks our members-only guides on scoping, building and shipping SI and Web3 software, and lets you request access to private repositories. You can sign in with Google, X, an email link, a mobile number or a Solana or Ethereum wallet, with no passwords to manage.

We don't sell theatre. We sell solved problems.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

01

What is Spectrum Web Co?

Spectrum Web Co is a Software Engineering Collective based in Sydney, Australia. It designs, builds and launches SI and Web3 software for founders, teams and businesses across Australia, and sells the work as monthly services with a written scope. It was founded by Ove Govender, its Founder & Principal Software Engineer, and runs four live products of its own, KanbanOS, ClippyOS, Desk Lanes and Auctioning, as proof of how it works.

02

What does the "Co" in Spectrum Web Co stand for?

The "Co" in Spectrum Web Co stands for Collective, not company. Spectrum Web Co is a Software Engineering Collective, a deliberately small team of senior engineers who own what they ship, end to end, from the first scope through launch and the monthly releases after it. The name is sometimes written Spectrum Web Co(llective) to make that explicit.

03

What services does Spectrum Web Co offer?

Spectrum Web Co offers three monthly services. Ship a Product takes new or stalled SI and Web3 products through discovery, build and launch, then keeps releasing every month. Recruiting & Talent Placement is a monthly retainer for engineering, product, operations and growth hires, including SI and Web3 specialists. Social Narratives, a short-form video service for Shorts, Reels, TikTok and X, is coming soon and has a waitlist.

04

How much does Spectrum Web Co charge?

Spectrum Web Co does not publish a price list, because a product rescue, a first build, an ongoing release rhythm and a hiring retainer are different shapes of work. You describe what needs to ship or who you need to hire, and Spectrum Web Co replies with a written monthly scope covering what is included, what ships and what it costs. Paid work starts only once that scope is agreed in writing, and there is no lock-in beyond the current month.

05

Who owns the code Spectrum Web Co writes for clients?

The client does. Code, accounts and documentation belong to the client from day one of a Spectrum Web Co engagement, and the terms of each engagement are set out in its written agreement. Documentation is written as the build progresses, so the whole product can move in-house or to another team at any time, with no lock-in.

06

What has Spectrum Web Co built and open-sourced?

Spectrum Web Co has four live products. KanbanOS runs agentic software delivery, ClippyOS runs clipping agencies, Desk Lanes is a pay-to-rank board for Grok Bots and Auctioning is a business racing game on Solana. It has also open-sourced three tools for SI coding agents on GitHub, Agent Swarm, Ultrathink and Omega, and is building a fourth, Agent Substrate, with early access by request.

07
